Flora

The savannah-regions (with 800 to 1200 mm of rain p.a. and a dry period of seven months) are massively exploited for farming. Presumably it used to be prairie-land with few trees.

Dry leaf-tree forests or dry forests respectively with a relatively closed treetop-roof can be found in the same region on the flat and rocky grounds of the mountain sides. Most of the trees lose their leaves in the dry period.
"Semi-leaf-tree forests" or "tropic leaf-tree forests" are situated in the east of the Costa towards the Andes (rain: 1500 to 2500 mm, dry period of three months) and covered great parts of the Costa, that are used for farming these days. Some of these trees lose their leaves during the dry period, others keep them (A description of the inland rainforests of the Costa can be found in Oriente.)

Vegetation in the Andes
The Cordilleras are marked by the Paramo-Region that is treeless from heights between 3400 to 4700 m. They are tropical-alpine grass- and heath-land. This unique grassland-zone has a characteristic strong wind, that can often turn into snowstorms. Temperature-breakdowns of more than 15 degrees Celsius within few minutes is not rare in these heights.
