Climate

Due to Ecuador's proximity to the equator there are hardly any fluctuations in temperature during the course of the year.
Instead of a seasonal climate, one can only differentiate between the dry and the wet season.
Particularly in the mountain valleys of the high plains there are strong temperature fluctuations during the course of the day - the so-called diurnal climate (as opposed to the seasonal climate eg. in Europe).
After a cool, often sunny morning, temperatures increase till midday. In the afternoons, there is usually rain, especially from November till May. In the evening it cools down noticeably. The temperature can range from 7 to 22 degrees Celsius on a single day.

In the north of the Costa it is humid and hot with temperatures between 27 and 30 degrees Celsius. At nighttime it cools down to 20 degrees Celsius. Annual precipitation varies between 1000 to 1200 mm.

Near the coast, precipitation rates decrease from north to south (500 to 700 mm). Here the driest months are June to November when it is often hazy though. The Oriente has the highest annual precipitation with 2000-3000mm, average daily temperature is 26 degrees Celsius.
